Will The Detroit Lions Make The Playoffs With Their Good Start in 2011

The Detroit Lions have always been one of the worst teams in the NFL, the highlight of this was in 2008 when they had a perfect season. It was perfect in the wrong way though as they had gone the entire season without winning one game. This is why the beginning of this season has been quite the shock as the Detroit Lions were undefeated for the first five weeks and currently are number two in the NFC North behind the Green Bay Packers. Because of the stellar start to the Detroit Lions, many people wonder if they actually will be able to make the playoffs this year.

There several things to consider when thinking about a possible Detroit Lions postseason run. Their season has been very good so far but many of their second half match ups are much harder than the games they have played thus far. Though they should only need to have 10 or 11 wins to secure a wild card spot in the playoffs so they are already halfway there. Even with the loss that they suffered, they still have great momentum thanks to being undefeated so far into the season. This will help them when it comes to having confidence that can help them when going for a playoff spot.

Right now, the team is healthy which will help with their playoffs chances. Matt Stafford had been played with injuries for the last few seasons, so this year was the first time that we were able to see what a deadly combination he is when paired with Calvin Johnson. Add in an

Who will the New York Jets Pick In the First Round?

The New York Jets have the 28th pick in this year’s NFL draft, and the Jets have some very specific holes to fill. New York will address issues on both sides of the ball in this year’s draft, but the early part of the draft will go towards addressing the pressing needs created by free agency.
Who will the New York Jets Pick In the First Round?
At the wide receiver position, the Jets are still trying to figure out what to do with Braylon Edwards. They want to keep the talented wide receiver, but they need to work on his contract. Santonio Holmes is already on board for 2011, and so is running back LaDainian Tomlinson.

On defense, it looks like the Jets may be allowing cornerback Antonio Cromartie to leave, which would create a huge hole in the secondary. But, those contract negotiations are also ongoing, and the Jets have indicated that they want Cromartie to stay.

If Cromartie and Edwards remain with the Jets, then the biggest need for the Jets is on offense. Right now, Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes offer deep threats, but the Jets have no slot receiver. That is limiting what quarterback Mark Sanchez will do. That is why the Jets will draft a strong wide receiver in the first round

Can the Lions give the Bills a loss to tie their road loss record

The Lions are getting +1.5 points in Buffalo and the over/under is 45 for the game.

Almost 7 years following busting a record for the top road losing skid in league history, Detroit might repeat.
In the event that occurs, they will be certain of continuing to be in the record book as the sole club to do a much more tragic accomplishment.

2 yrs years ago the Lions had their 0-16 ordeal, Detroit encounter the only club that may complement that record this year as they matchup against Buffalo seeking to prevent a twenty fifth sequential road defeat. Dallas Cowboys vs Green Packers Game Matchup

Two teams heading in opposite directions will meet at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Sunday. This was thought to be one of the premier games in the NFC before the season started, but Dallas has slipped to a 1-6 start on the season and is without star quarterback Tony Romo. Meanwhile, Green Bay is coming off a huge road win against the Jets and seems to have gotten back on track with a 5-3 record.

2009 matchup highlights:

Green Bay is led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a fantasy star who has not gotten off to the start many expected. Still, Rodgers is healthy and fully capable of leading the potent Green Bay offense. He will miss Donald Driver, who is out with an injury. Despite that loss, Green Bay still has good players at the skill positions. On defense, Green Bay lets opponents gain yards but does a good job of stopping them when it matters. They shut out the Jets

NFL oct 24 PIT @ MIA preview

Pittsburgh’s Steelers blow into Miami and Pro Player Stadium this Sunday to take on the Miami Dolphins in an AFC Conference game. Oddsmakers have made Pittsburgh a 3 point favorite.

Pittsburgh welcomed back QB Ben Roethlisberger from a four-game league suspension last Sunday, and Big Ben led the Steelers to a 28-10 win against Division rival the Cleveland Browns. Roethlisberger looked in good form against the Browns, completing 16 of 27 passes for three touchdowns and an interception. The Steelers, 4-1 on the season, made good use of their ground game early in the Cleveland game, running Rashard Mendenhall twenty-seven times for 84 yards. Roethlisberger then went to the air after the Browns began crowding the line to try and stop the run, and WR’s Hines Ward, Mike Wallace and TE Heath Miller all made big contributions as Big Ben methodically cut the Brown’s secondary up.

As usual, the Steelers defense was unrelenting and swarming, allowing Cleveland only 41 yards on the ground. Cleveland rookie QB Colt McCoy made his first career start and was decent, although finding the end zone wasn’t as easy as it was with the Texas Longhorns. The Browns didn’t get into the end zone until just four minutes remained in the game. McCoy finished with 281 passing yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Steeler LB James Harrison was at his mad-dog best, knocking two Browns out of the game, RB Joshua Cribbs and WR Mohammed Massaquoi, with possible concussions. The NFL is investigating the vicious hits and a suspension may very well be forthcoming.

The Dolphins, 3-2 after last Sunday’s overtime road victory at Green Bay, 23-20, are slowly but surely rounding into shape. Miami’s defense is usually tough at home, so nothing will come easy for Pittsburgh. The Dolphins “D” isn’t loaded with superstars or All-Pros, but they are young and hungry and perform well when their backs are against the wall. On offense, QB Chad Henne continues to draw plenty of boos from the fans, but he seems to do alright when he has to. WR Brandon Marshall is having an excellent season in Miami after leaving Denver, and look for Henne to call Marshall’s number frequently on Sunday. RB’s Ronnie Brown and Rickey Williams are a load for any defense and if they can establish a consistent pattern of moving the chains against the tough Steeler defense, Miami could pull out a victory.

Tennessee Titans vs Dallas Cowboys Preview

This Sunday, the Tennessee Titans will travel to Texas to play the Dallas Cowboys. Tennessee comes into this game 2nd in the AFC South with a record of 2-2. Dallas is currently 1-2 on the year, which places them 4th in the NFC East. Tennessee is coming off of a hard-fought loss to Denver while Dallas is coming off of a big win over Houston.

Offensively, Tennessee’s running game is their focal point. They average 133.3 rushing yards per game, which is 9th in the league. Their passing game has been abysmal this year, as they average only 152.3 passing yards per game, which is 30th in the league. Chris Johnson, their standout running back, has 354 yards and 4 touchdowns on 94 carries, but he did not score in his last game. Starting quarterback Vince Young has thrown for 511 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions this season.

Defensively, Tennessee is solid as usual. They are allowing 210.8 passing yards per game, which is 13th in the league, and 92 rushing yards per game, which is 10th in the league. Stephen Tulloch has been great this year, and he already has 38 tackles.

Dallas’ offensive is exactly the opposite of Tennessee’s, as Dallas depends on the pass instead of the run. They average 311.7 passing yards per game, which is 4th in the league. However, the only average 80 rushing yards per game, which is 26th in the league. Quarterback Tony Romo has done well so far, passing for 940 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Miles Austin, Romo’s favorite target, is having a great year as well. He has made 22 receptions for 308 yards and a touchdown so far.

Dallas has done a good job on defense this year, allowing 215.7 passing yards per game, which is 14th in the league, and 83.7 rushing yards per game, which is 8th in the league. Linebacker Keith Brooking has been great so far, making 21 total tackles and also making a sack.

Tennessee needs to find a way around Dallas’ tough run defense in order to win this game. On the other hand, if Tennessee can force Dallas to run instead of pass, they have a great chance at victory. This game has all the makings of being a low-scoring, hard nosed, defensive football game. Both teams play good defense, and both teams are in need of another win.

NFL Week 5 match up Chargers at Raiders

Week five NFL action will feature the San Diego Chargers traveling to take on the Oakland Raiders. Through the first three games both teams have disappointed, and both will need to win the next two weeks to have a chance to salvage their season.

The Chargers are notorious for starting slow but losses to the Chiefs, and Seahawks foreshadow rough days ahead for a franchise that recently parted ways with their all time rushing leader. The Bolts are also suffering from the contract dispute with Wide Receiver Vincent Jackson, whom they alienated in the off season. While Phillip Rivers is one of the top quarterbacks in the league one has to wonder if he has the targets he needs to be successful, in a team that has left their running game by the wayside.

Despite looking good against Jacksonville in week 2 the Chargers secondary has been letting them down game after game, and Oakland is the kind of team to take advantage of that.

The Raiders on the other hand have been more impressive than they have been in years. They lost to a Titans team in week one that is now looking very strong. They pulled out a win against the lowly Rams, who look to be a better team than Jacksonville this season, before dropping a one point game to a Cardinals team that is still capable of putting up good numbers.

Oakland suffered several years of bad quarterback play from former starter Jamarcus Russel, and are now in a mode of rebuilding. While their off season acquisition of Jason Campbell hasn’t worked out the way they hoped, the Raiders have been getting better play out of Bruce Gradkowski than expected.

The Raiders defense is by far its’ most improved aspect this year, and they continue to get better. While their secondary hasn’t looked too sharp, and their pass rush is mediocre at best they still stack up well against a stumbling Chargers team is used to being able to dominate.

Look for the Raiders to attack San Diegos’ weak secondary this year, and keep the ball on the ground. If the Raiders can stop Rivers’ aerial assault then they could very well win this one despite being huge underdogs. For Rivers and the Bolts they need to get better play out of every aspect of their team, to avoid dropping a game they really should win.
